Visual Comfort & Co. announces a new design partnership with Paris-based designer Verena Brausch, introducing her debut lighting collection for the brand. Drawing on her background in industrial, furniture, and interior design, Brausch brings a distinctive perspective to four product families spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall sconces, and table lamps. "What drew us to Verena's work was her unique point of view, shaped by her background in industrial and interior design," said Sean Lavin, Chief Design Officer of Visual Comfort & Co. "Her attention to proportion and materials gives each piece a strong visual presence, with the quality of light central to every design." Throughout the collection, Brausch contrasts solid and translucent materials, using etched glass and natural alabaster to soften and diffuse the light. • GLOW combines architectural geometry with soft, diffused light, while its glass dome gives the piece a sculptural, tactile and quietly distinctive character. • FAUBOURG table lamps are conceived as illuminated sculptures, balancing a softly diffused glass dome with a precise brass or bronze base, giving them a quiet contemporary elegance. • EVER is a highly sculptural lighting family, combining radial movement and refined proportions with natural alabaster and brass and bronze forms to create a strong architectural presence. • BOULE is conceived around atmosphere, elegance and repetition, with softly glowing glass forms creating a refined sense of rhythm and movement. Together, the four series express a shared language of material, proportion and light, while each retains its own distinct character. "I wanted the collection to bring together noble materials, precision and a strong sense of presence. Lighting is deeply personal and emotional, and each piece is designed to elevate a room in a natural way. It has been incredibly exciting to develop this vision with Visual Comfort and bring it to life as a complete lighting collection," said Verena Brausch. The Verena Brausch for Visual Comfort & Co. collection debuts at Fall High Point Market, with a Verena Brausch Collection Launch Party on Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m. at Visual Comfort & Co.'s High Point showroom. Feature AI’s Real Value Lies in Getting Homes Built Faster Delivering more homes has become one of the UK’s most pressing challenges, with the government aiming to add 1.5 million new properties during this Parliament. For housebuilders, meeting that goal means finding ways to increase output despite skills shortages, limited capacity and a housing deficit that continues to grow. AI can help, but it needs to be used much more effectively. Much of AI’s adoption in housing so far has centred on selling. CGI, social content and customer contact. These are all useful things, but they don’t help with the process of building more homes. If, however, we start applying AI to the procedures behind development and construction and use it to remove the fragmented information and administrative bottlenecks that slow decision-making and hold up progress long before work begins on site, then we might start to see real benefits. Bringing intelligence into construction Used within the planning phase, AI can help teams process development enquiries, assess potential opportunities and identify where further investigation is needed. Project specifications can inform preliminary cost estimates and supplier enquiries, while procurement systems can highlight materials at risk of arriving late. By analysing project data continuously, AI can also flag emerging delays, giving teams more time to intervene before problems affect delivery. It’s not about removing people from the equation. In fact, the more AI is used, the more human judgement and experience are needed. But AI can help people access relevant information sooner. It can flag risks before they become problems. And it can help people to make better-informed decisions. They’re small changes, but together hold the potential to reduce friction across development teams, improve project efficiency and help housebuilders deliver homes more quickly. Focus on outcomes There are always risks with AI and the major issue here could be the adoption of AI simply because it is available. This is something we’ve already seen across multiple industries; businesses are under pressure to demonstrate that they are embracing the technology and introducing tools without a clear understanding of the problems they should solve. A more considered approach is needed. Rather than measuring success by the number of AI tools adopted or processes automated, housebuilders need to focus on tangible results. Can the technology save employees time? Is it reducing errors, bringing decisions forward, or helping projects stay on schedule? When you start with a goal, you understand that adding the right platform is more important than simply introducing tools because you can. The best starting point is to identify specific bottlenecks across development and construction, then assess whether AI can make a meaningful difference. This does not have to mean a large-scale transformation from day one. A targeted application that saves a single team several hours each week holds the potential to bring measurable value. And that’s what you’re looking for. Small, measurable improvements. Managing accountability As AI becomes more involved in operational decisions, effective governance becomes increasingly important. Where its outputs influence vital areas of any business, clear human oversight is essential. Employees need to understand where AI is being used, how its recommendations are checked and who is responsible for the decisions that follow, especially where inaccurate information could lead to expensive mistakes or delays. The role of AI shouldn’t be to replace skilled teams, or to remove accountability from them, but to support them. AI has genuine potential to help the housebuilding industry work more efficiently, but it’s not yet being fully accessed. If the UK is serious about delivering 1.5 million new homes this Parliament, developers need to look at how technology can improve the entire process, from early-stage enquiries and procurement through to construction and delivery, not just marketing. To do that, the focus needs to be on finding solutions that help people to get work done. The proof of the pudding will be in whether more houses actually get built. BUILD Q4 2026 Best Religious & Institutional Architecture Practice 2026 – Hong Kong Founded in 1995 by architect Eric Chan, Eric Design Architect Ltd has built a distinguished reputation for architecture that serves communities with dignity, compassion, and purpose. Over the past three decades, the practice has specialised in educational, religious, and institutional architecture, delivering kindergartens, churches, elderly homes, rehabilitation complexes, and community facilities across Hong Kong. Eric Design Architect Ltd Tack Ching Kindergarten Hong Chi Jockey Club Pinehill Rehabilitation Complex

9 At the heart of this award-winning practice is a commitment to architecture as a catalyst for social good. While many architects focus on commercial development, Eric Chan has consistently directed his expertise towards serving vulnerable and often overlooked members of society. His portfolio includes facilities for the elderly, persons experiencing homelessness, individuals with physical disabilities, and people with intellectual disabilities. Through these projects, he has demonstrated how thoughtful design can foster inclusion, independence, and human dignity. This philosophy is reflected in a portfolio of widely recognised projects. The Precious Blood's Home for the Aged Sisters, a residential care facility for a Catholic institution, received the President's Prize 2013 from the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA). More recently, the Hong Chi Jockey Club Pinehill Rehabilitation Complex, designed for persons with intellectual disabilities, earned the Merit Award at the HKIA Cross-Strait Architectural Design Awards 2024. Together, these achievements illustrate a consistent commitment to combining architectural excellence with meaningful social impact. In recognition of this enduring contribution, Eric Design Architect Ltd has been named Best Religious & Institutional Architecture Practice 2026 – Hong Kong in the Design & Build Awards presented by BUILD. The award acknowledges a body of works that extends beyond buildings to create lasting benefits for communities, institutions, and future generations. Among the practice's most significant recent projects is Tack Ching Kindergarten, a purposebuilt educational facility established by the Sisters of the Precious Blood in Sham Shui Po, one of Hong Kong's most vibrant and densely populated districts. Relocating to its new campus on Fuk Wing Street in 2020, the kindergarten presented an opportunity to reimagine what an urban educational environment could be for young children. The project is founded on a powerful idea described by the architect as "Another Place, A World Within a World." Situated amid the intensity and activity of Sham Shui Po, the school creates a protected environment where children can encounter nature, light, faith, and imagination. Passing through the entrance, visitors leave behind the noise and density of the surrounding streets and enter a calm, skyfilled world designed around the needs of children. This sense of transformation is reinforced by the building's innovative design concept. Inspired by principles of Quantum Mechanics, the project employs a “Quantum Grid” that organises spaces along a spectrum ranging from fully open outdoor areas to fully enclosed indoor rooms. The resulting sequence of outdoor, semi-outdoor, semi-indoor, and indoor spaces generates a rich and varied learning environment while maintaining a clear spatial coherence throughout the building. Four guiding principles shaped the design from its inception. The first is the idea of a Breathing Building, where natural cross-ventilation reduces reliance on mechanical cooling and improves comfort. The second is Vitality, expressed through the extensive use of natural light as a living architectural medium. The third is Evangelism, represented by a threestorey biblical mural that serves both as a landmark for the neighbourhood and a visible expression of the school's faith. The fourth is Creation and Salvation, symbolised through the use of natural light, the Cross, and the school's striking red staircase wall. The project responds thoughtfully to the realities of its urban context. Sham Shui Po is characterised by compact development and limited access to open space. Recognising this challenge, the design provides generous outdoor environments, including a large grass play area, rooftop terraces, and a skyopen central courtyard. These spaces offer children daily access to greenery, sunlight, fresh air, and a sense of freedom rarely available within such a dense urban setting. Equally important is the project's commitment to creating meaningful experiences for its young users. Every element is designed to be experienced at a child's scale and through a child's perspective. Circular geometries inspired by water droplets appear throughout the building in floor patterns, windows, lighting fixtures, reading nooks, and play elements. The library, inspired by the Garden of Gethsemane, incorporates intimate cave-like spaces that encourage imaginative exploration and independent reading. In the auditorium, coloured skylights transform sunlight into shifting patterns of coloured illumination, creating moments of wonder that remain memorable long after formal lessons have ended. The technical innovation behind the project is equally noteworthy. Built on reclaimed land with high groundwater levels and limited soil bearing capacity, the site presented significant construction challenges. Rather than relying on costly deeppile foundations, the design team developed an integrated raft foundation strategy that aligned structural and architectural thinking from the earliest stages of the project. This approach reduced excavation, shortened construction time, lowered material consumption, and generated substantial cost savings. For a non-profit educational institution, these savings could be reinvested directly into the quality of the learning environment. Sustainability was embedded from the outset as a fundamental design principle rather than added as a technological afterthought. Building orientation, natural ventilation, daylight penetration, and rooftop landscaping work together to create a highly efficient environment. Construction waste was creatively repurposed into playful giraffe sculptures that remain one of the school's most popular outdoor features, demonstrating environmental stewardship in a manner that is both visible and meaningful to children. Perhaps most importantly, the project embodies continuity and cultural memory. A white orchid tree lost during Typhoon Hato was replanted in its original location within the new campus, connecting the new building to the school's long history in the district. Together with the biblical mural, coloured skylight, and carefully preserved institutional identity, these gestures ensure that the architecture honours both the past and the future. Since opening in 2020, the kindergarten has become a cherished part of the community. Children have embraced its playful and light-filled spaces, while parents and neighbours recognise the building as a landmark of care, learning, and faith within Sham Shui Po. The project demonstrates how architectural excellence, social responsibility, technical innovation, and community service can be brought together within a single work. Through projects such as Tack Ching Kindergarten, Precious Blood's Home for the Aged Sisters, and Hong Chi Jockey Club Pinehill Rehabilitation Complex, the firm continues to demonstrate that architecture can be both exceptional and compassionate. The practice's work stands as a testament to the belief that great design is not measured solely by aesthetics, but by its capacity to enrich lives, strengthen communities, and create places of dignity, hope, and belonging. Collectively, these projects reflect a clear and compassionate architectural vision. Serving children, older adults, and persons with intellectual disabilities, Eric Design Architect Ltd has consistently used design to advance dignity, inclusion, and well-being. Rooted in faith, service, and social responsibility, the practice creates places that strengthen both community and hope. Through its distinguished educational, religious, and institutional portfolio, the firm demonstrates the transformative power of architecture. This commitment to excellence and meaningful social impact fully merits its recognition as Best Religious & Institutional Architecture Practice 2026 – Hong Kong in this year’s Design & Build Awards. BUILD Q4 2026 Written by Louise Stacey – Marketing Manager, ECLISSE UK Best Pocket Door System Supplier 2026 – UK Contact Details: Company: ECLISSE UK Website: www.eclisse.co.uk Pocket doors have become an increasingly important feature within contemporary residential and commercial design. By allowing a door to slide seamlessly into a concealed wall cavity, rather than opening into the room, a pocket door system can transform the way a space looks, feels and functions. For ECLISSE, however, creating an exceptional pocket door system is about far more than simply saving space. It is about engineering a complete architectural solution that performs reliably, integrates cleanly with the surrounding interior and gives architects, designers, developers and homeowners greater freedom when planning a project. Designed Around the Space Traditional hinged doors require a clear opening arc, which can restrict furniture placement, interrupt circulation routes and limit the usable area within a room. A pocket door removes this constraint by disappearing into the wall when open. This makes pocket doors particularly effective in areas where space is at a premium, including ensuites, bathrooms, utility rooms, kitchens, dressing rooms and compact bedrooms. They can also be used to create flexible connections between larger spaces, enabling adjoining rooms to be separated when required or opened up to create a more expansive environment. The result is a door system that delivers both practical and aesthetic benefits. At ECLISSE, our pocket door systems have been developed with attention to the details that matter throughout the life of the installation. Robust engineering, smooth operation and considered construction help create systems that are straightforward to specify and capable of delivering dependable long-term performance. Our range includes solutions for single and double pocket doors, allowing designers to specify concealed sliding doors across a wide variety of layouts and applications. More Than Pocket Doors While pocket door systems remain at the heart of ECLISSE, our expertise extends across a much wider range of architectural door frame solutions. ECLISSE is an architectural door frame specialist, providing systems designed to help create cleaner lines, more flexible interiors and distinctive architectural finishes. Alongside our pocket door systems, the ECLISSE range includes frameless pocket door systems, designed for projects where minimalist detailing is a priority. By removing visible architraves and traditional frame detailing, frameless systems allow the door opening to integrate more discreetly into the surrounding wall. Our frameless hinged door systems offer the same architectural approach for conventional opening doors. These concealed-frame systems enable doors to sit flush with the wall, creating a refined, contemporary finish that is increasingly popular within high-end residential, hospitality and commercial interiors. We also offer flush access panels, providing a discreet way to conceal service and utility areas while maintaining the continuity of the wall surface. Rather than treating access points as purely functional necessities, these systems allow them to become an integrated part of the overall interior design. Together, these solutions enable architects and interior designers to take a more coordinated approach to door openings throughout a project. Supporting Better Architectural Design Good architectural products should give designers more freedom rather than introduce additional limitations. Whether the objective is to recover valuable floor space, create a seamless transition between rooms or achieve a minimalist flush-wall aesthetic, the correct door frame system can have a significant impact on the finished environment. That principle sits at the centre of the ECLISSE approach. We continually focus on developing systems that combine intelligent engineering with considered design, helping architects, specifiers, contractors and installers achieve highquality results while giving end users products that are enjoyable and reliable to use. Being named Best Pocket Door System Supplier 2026 – UK is therefore an important recognition of both our pocket door expertise and the wider philosophy behind the ECLISSE range. It reflects our commitment to creating architectural door systems in which functionality, engineering and design work together. ECLISSE UK is proud to have been recognised as Best Pocket Door System Supplier 2026 in this year’s Design & Build Awards, celebrating our continued commitment to innovative, beautifully engineered architectural door solutions. As interiors continue to become more flexible, space-conscious and detail-led, we believe doors should be considered as an integral part of the architecture rather than simply a finishing component. From concealed pocket doors to frameless hinged doors and flush access solutions, ECLISSE UK will continue helping designers create spaces where every opening has been carefully considered. BUILD Q4 2026 Coda Workspace is a London-based firm offering a more personal, considered approach to workspace design and build. Driven by decades of first-hand experience, the firm has established a proven track record in delivering outstanding commercial interiors, with services spanning workplace consultation, design and build, workplace refurbishment, and full turnkey solutions. The company develops each workspace with deep consideration, creating environments that inspire teams, elevate cultures, and drive businesses forward. At Coda Workspace, each new project begins with a dedicated consultation. The team starts with “why”: taking the time to understand each business’s specific requirements, question their assumptions, and discover what will help them thrive. The team will observe a client’s team, learning the unique patterns, rituals, opportunities and constraints that make a culture unique. Drawing upon these observations, Coda Workspace will then build a robust strategy that ensures future success in the workplace. Through workshops and discovery, Coda Workspace translates each detail into a workspace design that is tailored to each client. The team considers every detail in great depth, shaping each element of the design around how the client’s team actually works. This process spans strategy and concept through to design and build, and final delivery of the finished workspace. This process is available as individual services, or as full workplace refurbishments and turnkey solutions. Across this comprehensive service, Coda Workspace maintains an unwavering focus on client satisfaction. “Our clients come first, front and centre,” Kailee told us. “Workspace design is such a personal and human activity; it should be tailored, unique, and reflect the people that will interact with the space, creating a thriving culture and community for all our clients. Designing for people is never a one-size-fits-all; we dig deep to ensure we are creating a bespoke journey for our clients and a truly tailored environment for their future.” This approach to client service is precisely what enables Coda Workspace to stand out in a saturated market. The team respects each client as an individual person, recognising the significant time and effort being taken out from their own day-to-day working roles in their mission to create a cohesive working environment for their colleagues. Therefore, the firm removes all gimmicks, ego, and over-selling from the conversation, ensuring that the process is as streamlined and enjoyable as possible for the client. This service is delivered by a dedicated team of professionals, who bring a truly “roll your sleeves up” mentality to each project Coda Workspace undertakes. This culture is led by Founders Jonathan O’Neill and Elliot West, two highly experienced and respected industry figures who operate with the ethos that people come first. Together, they promote a family culture across Coda Workspace, encouraging the team to support each other and help one another succeed. Research suggests that the design of a workspace can have a significant impact on the health, performance, and productivity of a team. No firm understands this more than Coda Workspace, a workplace design and build firm that has gained recognition for putting people at the heart of every project. We heard more from Creative Director Kailee Lane below, as Coda Workspace is named in the Design and Build Awards 2026. Coda Workspace’s internal culture has played an instrumental role in the firm’s growth. “Of course there will be challenges along the way, in projects and in business, so there is no point hiding, shying away, or being unrealistic,” said Kailee. “We get stuck in and collaborate to find solutions, always bringing our clients along with us. We believe that maintaining our own culture in this way, even as we grow, is essential to how we serve our clients. It starts with the appreciation and support of our own people.” Now, Coda Workspace looks to the future with great ambition. A key focus for the team is the ways in which it communicates and collaborates with clients; Coda Workspace is currently seeking ways to tell the design story in a more interactive format, leaving no stone unturned or detail unmentioned whilst allowing the client to immerse themselves within new design ideas. Adaptions will be made in real-time, so that educated decisions can be made throughout the process. At the same time, Coda Workspace will continue to grow, expanding and enhancing its offerings in such a way that underpins its status as the UK’s Best Human-Centred Workplace Design and Build Firm 2026. Looking ahead, Kailee shared, “Our focus for future innovation surrounds our clients and their projects: how we can provide them with the most innovative solutions, explore every idea with them, and ensure that the spaces we create helps them to innovate in the future.” Contact: Kailee Lane Company: Coda Workspace Web Address: www.codaworkspace.com Creating Spaces where Company Cultures Thrive
