Construction and Engineering Awards 2020

49 Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 BUILD BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 48 deally situated in the West Midlands, our company enjoys the geographical efficiency of easy access to the majority of the UK’s industrial and commercial locations. We offer the widest range of high quality, well designed installations with a professional service, comprising of site visits, regulatory design by our engineers, functional fluid flow dynamic calculations, 3D drawings, photo realistic visualisations, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, installation and post install pressure testing. We take quality and safety seriously which has enabled us to achieve the following ISO registrations: ISO 9001 – Quality, ISO 14001 - Environment and ISO 45001 – Health and Safety which makes us one of the market leaders carrying independent professional accreditations, we have our own in house dedicated Health and Safety team who ensures we are fully compliant with all of the latest legislation and standards. Midtherm’s highly trained and experienced engineers work on projects not only throughout the UK, but also overseas, our expansive knowledge and expertise have allowed us to install the six flue systems in the tallest building in the world, the famous Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai. Burj Khalifa Case Study During our three decades plus of trading we have completed a multitude of installations in the Middle East, often the projects involve our engineers travelling to site at the design stage followed by the generation of technical solutions incorporating structural, mechanical and fluid dynamic resolutions for what are often incredibly diverse requirements. We undertake each project by delivering our clients ISO 45001 Health and Safety accredited installation supervision. Construction of the Burj Khalifa Tower began in 2004 and was officially opened in 2010. Standing at a phenomenal height of over 828m, it currently holds 7 world records including the world records for the tallest building and free-standing structure. The flue project undertaken on this site required us to design, supply, deliver and supervise the installation of the specialist Midtherm Engineering Ltd - Best Flue Systems Design & Installation Company – UK Midtherm Engineering Ltd, have been designing, supplying and installing flue systems since our company originated in 1983, we are a fully independent specialist company offering a large range of services such as design, supply and installation of flues, masts, chimneys, commercial canopy systems, natural ventilation systems and Furanflex composite liners, as well as CCTV surveys, and pressure testing. I Sep20711 flue systems within the buildings 6No major plantrooms. Each plantrooms flue system varied in complexity and all serve a diverse range of plant including steam and condensing boilers, some of which incorporate fan assistance. The most recent installation project, at Ricoh Arena, Coventry showcases our expansive design, supply and installation capabilities. Ricoh Arena Case Study The management at Ricoh were keen to enhance the site’s green credentials, by investing in a flue system that ensured a cleaner future for the venue and for Coventry. Midtherm was able to provide innovative design solutions to replace the existing non-compliant flue, as well as the introduction of an additional independent flue. The concept, although challenging, required specialist insight to help produce an aesthetically appealing solution, sympathetic to the original architecture of this striking building, whilst meeting current Local Authority planning permission, which only permitted installation of a single flue system rising to above roof level. During our site visit it was found that the project required installation of two separate flues, one serving an existing generator and one serving a new CHP unit. Midtherm’s solution was to install an oval shaped multi flue chimney, thus enabling the installation of two individual flues, creating the illusion that a single flue system had been installed. Using our photo realistic visualisation software we created a photo montage of the design proposal. The management at Ricoh were delighted by the design, which fulfilled their ‘green’ criteria as well as presenting them with an imaginative solution to overcome planning permission restrictions. Months of intense design, planning and manufacturing followed, which involved Midtherm supervised trained engineers completing ground investigation surveys, civil and structural design works as well as completing 3D CAD drawings for manufacture and installation. On a rainy day in March, Midtherm carried out the challenging final part of the installation, which included their abseiling team. Delicate access adjacent to the glazed façade at Ricoh Arena was necessary to ensure the existing building was protected. This intricate task involved threading a 1m wide, 30m high multi flue chimney through one of the Arena’s structural roof steelwork trusses. The chimney was connected to new steelwork, cantilevering from roof level and at ground level to a holding-down bolt frame which had been precast into the new foundation block. Design ingenuity and engineering capabilities were key to overcoming the difficulties at Ricoh Arena, that other flue companies had declined to tender. The result is that Ricoh Arena showcases Midtherm’s ability to accomplish the most challenging project, whilst satisfying their client’s criteria to invest in a greener future and enhance the look of this iconic Coventry landmark. As demonstrated we have an extensive project portfolio which includes installing our products in many residential, manufacturing; healthcare and government buildings/sectors all over the world, this includes installing flues in many prestigious buildings such as The Tower of London and 10 Downing Street, for more information please visit our website www.mideng.net
