BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 6 Aug20334 Best Rope Access & High-Rise Construction Company 2020 – Australia & Best Complex Maintenance Project 2020 (Australia): South Brisbane Helicopter Glass Lift ince 2017, Apex Façades has been a mainstay of Australia’s construction and maintenance scene. Operated in partnership by Mitchell Haskard and Andrew Gennings, the firm has become renowned for their efforts in the fields of rope access, rigging and specialist construction. While new technical processes have come onto the market in the last few years, the flexibility of rope access is one that simply cannot be ignored. The team has maintained three core values since its inception. These values are the baseline from which the business operates, for the security of employees and clients alike. First is safety, to ensure that there is as little risk possible in any project, and where there is too much risk to stop and make the site safer. The second is efficiency, for the benefit of clients who do not want the team to waste their time, and for the team to ensure that they do not put themselves unnecessarily at risk. The third and final core value is quality. This is a promise that all of the work undertaken by the team will be of the highest standard, guaranteed. This vision of how Apex Façades will function has not changed since those first days of operation three years ago. They are integral to the safety of employees and the value and quality provided to clients. Since opening their doors, the team have been invited to take part in numerous complicated projects, working in partnership with some of Australia’s largest building companies and investment management firms. Often, this work has involved not only pitching themselves as the ideal solution, but working to often challenging deadlines to get the job done successfully. In the last three years, the team have undertaken projects for clients that include Lend Lease, Multiplex, Hutchinsons Builders, Investa, GPT and JLL. These have been difficult and demanding in many different ways, often requiring pinpoint accuracy at every stage, as well as the ability to fulfil the demands of project management. The work has involved glazing, construction and maintenance in difficult and otherwise impossible to reach situations. No circumstance is identical to any other, and the team employ a range of techniques to ensure that their projects are always completed efficiently and safely. Sometimes, the most complex work requires the simplest answers. Rope access is a historic trade that offers a great deal of flexibility for those who use it. Now this skill is the domain of experts, with the team at Apex Façades offering some of the most impressive results in the field. We dig a little deeper not only into the firm but into some of its most impressive projects following their incredible success in BUILD’s Construction and Engineering Awards. S Ensuring that clients are always satisfied with the work as it is delivered is not easy. It involves a comprehensive exploration of the options, and careful consideration of what will be available to clients. As such, the planning and preparation that the team undertakes before going up on the ropes is always the first concern. When up on the ropes, the unexpected can happen. It’s why clients turn to Apex Façades, because their considerable experience has prepared them for any eventuality, but the team are prepared because they have planned ahead. Complex problems that take eventualities into account can be more easily fixed beforehand than on the job. The team works on a variety of different projects, drawing on their skills in the area of rope access to deliver many vital services. During natural disasters or criminal incidents, for example, glass is one of the worst affected, requiring rapid glass board ups and replacements. The experience of Apex Façades makes them the ideal choice amongst providers. One of the most common demands for the team at Apex Façades is to assist with weatherproofing buildings. Often the team take on work that has been performed by inexperienced contractors. Because the team has long background in glass, glazing and aluminium, they know exactly how to resolve leaking issues in a way that will last. The team are at the forefront of the movement away from vinyl glazing wedge and rubber and towards structural sealing. The result that the team delivers is one that will stand the test of time for decades. Often, the cost of annual inspections is prohibitive for many companies, but the rope access techniques that Apex Façades use help to identify challenging areas before they become more expensive. Working alongside independent façade engineers, the team are able to provide a full detailed audit on a client’s façade. From this information, they are able to formulate strategies that mitigate more damage and lower the potential costs to the client. Working with rope access technology allows the team to have minimal impact on the public and tenants while also offering an effective way of working.

Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 BUILD 7

BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 8 The use of rope access generally is still in its infancy in Australia, but new techniques are being developed all the time. To stay at the forefront of the industry requires constant research and innovation on the part of the team, who work tirelessly to deliver the best methods not only for cost effectiveness but for project completion. Recently, the team has taken on work for Lend Lease and Investa. This involved the practical completion and defect remediation of their property on 60 Martin Place in Sydney, NSW. The project started in 2019, when the team were invited to assist with the installation of over 750 glass panels, glass fins and aluminium cladding panels all via rope access. As one of the few firms able to tackle this sort of work, to this scale, the team were delighted to help. Apex Façades has developed a comprehensive approach to this sort of work, but Investa needed the project to be completed and signed off in under eight weeks. Apex Façades went into overdrive, meeting the challenge head on. Necessity is the mother of invention in many circumstances, and the team started to develop new ways of working that wouldn’t compromise the core values of safety, efficiency and quality. In the restraints of time and money, the team managed to devise new methods of lifting and rigging that boosted efficiency to a new level. One of the most challenging elements of this installation went beyond the time restraints and high pace of construction, instead revolving around the design of the building. One of the most striking elements was the substantial overhang on the North elevation. This extended out over the top of a heritage listed church. The team at Apex Façades are proudly some of the best in the world, but working on installation for this overhang really pushed them to the limit of what is possible with industrial rope access. Despite the many challenges that were part of this project, it was completed on time and on budget. The handover was conducted smoothly, and Apex Façades could stand proudly as having taken part in the construction of one of Sydney’s most iconic buildings. Many of the challenges that the team undertakes might seem impossible at first glance, but the team of specialty riggers and rope access technicians have seen it all and use innovative techniques to solve challenges with ease. The methods involved in lifting signs, glass or steel can be applied to a number of different circumstances such as the lifting of a grand piano to a high-rise penthouse. Regardless of the challenge, what Apex Façades is able to do is find the right people and the right method to ensure that everything is completed safely. Some projects are not suitable for rope access, or have better and more effective solutions. The team has built up strong relationships by being honest with clients. Working transparently is why the team are often trusted to complete the work they pitch for. The team do offer a range of different support mechanisms, however, using their skills in other areas to complete work for clients. When Apex Façades started in 2017, it was purely to offer rope access to clients, but this limited nature encouraged the team to open its doors. They never offer rope access purely because it is what they do. The most suitable option is always the first option in their eyes. Nowhere is this better shown than in the team’s approach to the South Brisbane Helicopter Glass Lift, which has been justly recognised in BUILD as the Best Complex Maintenance Project 2020 (Australia). The client had a problem. They had a semiframeless rooftop bar with a large glass sliding door, but the panel was broken. Due to the size and the shape of the panel, it was impossible to access by conventional methods. Fortunately, the team at Apex Façades thrive on the unconventional. Rope access was considered, as was using a mobile crane, but these options were impractical. Creative thinking inspired the use of an aerial crane helicopter. Despite all of the regulations, the closure of the main street of one of Brisbane’s busiest tourist areas and the inherent difficulties involved, it was the most economical and efficient method. The team had worked extensively on projects with aerial crane helicopters in the past, but never one quite like this. Planning took eight months. It could have been six, but the COVID-19 pandemic added the requirement to socially distance as well. On the day, the panel was flown from River Quay Green in the Southbank Parklands to the roof of the hotel where it was fitted easily and successfully by the team. Needless to say, this event held a number of firsts, and is almost certainly the first glass panel lifted by helicopter in Brisbane. For all the preparation, the job was over in a couple of hours with no complications. In every way, this particular project showed the flexibility and determination of the team’s efforts. They have the skill and the adaptability to tackle whatever challenges present themselves. The main appeal of rope access has always been its cost-effectiveness compared to other methods, but what Apex Façades offer is the experience to provide services that go above and beyond. They offer rope access as one of potentially many solutions. Looking ahead, the future seems bright for the team behind Apex Façades. The demand for services is increasing as more people see the potential of the industry. In fact, the team have taken active steps to ensure that their rope access operations remain at the top end of what businesses can offer. For many firms, transporting a pane of glass by helicopter would be the highpoint of their professional career, but for the team at Apex Façades, it’s just the beginning of an extraordinary new adventure.

Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 BUILD 9 The team are always looking for a new challenge, involving themselves in even more complex, yet rewarding challenges. Despite the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic, construction and plans for projects still go ahead and the team has many interesting options open to them in the future. The team take great pride in working on these projects, as they know that one of the best teams in the field has come together to make it happen. Currently, the team are exploring options that will allow the operation to work on a global scale, providing solutions on major infrastructure in places beyond Australia. The creative problem solving that has made the team such a success in commercial construction will no doubt apply to those in this industry as well. This new area holds a great deal of potential for the firm and will allow them to achieve new and astonishing levels of success. BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 10 Aug20350 Best Fireproofing & Passive Fire Protection Experts 2020 - UK hen a fire starts, nothing is safe. Loss of property and loss of life is a very real risk. For the last thirty years, CLM Fireproofing has been a mainstay of London fire protection and prevention, exploring and providing the latest ways of securing buildings. With a commitment to ensuring that the highest standards are deployed on all projects, the team has earned a reputation for delivering excellence in every respect. No two buildings are the same to CLM Fireproofing. Each requires a unique approach and a bespoke solution. This allows the team to push high-quality, fully compliant passive fire protection on construction projects of all sizes and types. As such, the team has been proud to deliver successful and major fire protection packages on some of London’s most iconic buildings. The team are committed to working alongside their clients, finding the right way forward to match their specific needs. Understanding what is expected means that CLM Fireproofing can leverage the industry to create exceptional results. The team are at the cutting edge of industry development, working carefully to increase efficiency and delivery their specialist services to an exemplary standard. Nowhere is this better showcased than in the team’s astonishing work on One Crown Place. This property allowed the team to demonstrate the whole spectrum of their services, including the team’s innovative early engagement process which is proving to be a huge success with every client. The project consisted of two prismatic towers, rising 28 and 33 As buildings grow ever bigger and more impressive, the need to ensure that they champion the highest of safety standards is clear. Fire safety, in particular, is one of the more challenging areas for many buildings. The team at CLM Fireproofing Ltd offer innovative methods of passive fire protection and firestopping. We take a closer look at the team and some of their most exciting projects to see what they have to offer. W storeys into the sky. At ground level stands a 6-storey building - home to 10,650sqm of high-quality office space, a variety of retail units and a boutique hotel and members’ club occupying Sun Street’s elegant row of Georgian terraces. The two concrete towers have different protection factors due to the multi-use nature of the building. The team collaborated with Mace to devise a strategy for passive fire protection. Passive protection’s purpose is to suitably protect all escape routes and compartment walls providing protection in emergency events for occupiers and residents in the building. The main part of this was using self-priming Nullifire SC902 intumescent paint to coat the structural steel framework, with a decorative finish. This allows the frame to remain on display. The protection achieved was a mixture of 90 and 120 mins. As well as this, they were asked to provide compartmentation services throughout the building. With external work on the residential towers already underway, all passive fire protection had to be coordinated with efficiency and exact precision. Firstly, the paint package was incorporated into the project schedule with rigidity. This was to ensure minimal disruption to Mace’s ongoing construction work. As well as this, the team co-ordinated the installation of penetration seals with other contractors. This facilitated safe and timely access to difficult-to-reach spaces whilst providing a fully compliant seal. The basement levels required some increased protection factors due to the high-risk nature of the room, providing up to four hours protection in certain areas. To achieve the different protection levels throughout the building, CLM Fireproofing had to be flexible with different manufacturers to ensure the client was provided with fully tested detail during installation. Work on One Crown Place is due to finish in the first quarter of 2021. The team at CLM Fireproofing are sure this will continue to be both a rewarding and stimulating project, and that they hope to collaborate with Mace again in the future. The secret behind the success of this project is in the team’s early engagement process allowing the CLM Fireproofing to engage with all the stakeholders and make plans that would not interfere with their work. On this project, this ensured that the team could produce a suite of tested solutions for all the firestopping of service penetrations throughout the building. Clive Miles - CEO

Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 BUILD 11

BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 12 CLM Fireproofing’s innovative fire and insulation solutions were used on a number of floors to increase the fire resistance. The team also installed all the fire breaks to the external cladding, ensuring a fully compliant building. The benefits of early engagement in all projects is that the team are not on the back-foot attempting to produce technical evaluations rather than being able to provide tested solutions. The implementation lifecycle explains this further. The team have been proud to work on numerous properties through London. Indeed, CLM Fireproofing were honoured to be part of The Shard’s fire protection infrastructure. More specifically, they supplied firestopping for all of the service penetrations throughout the building. ‘Service penetrations’ refers to how cables, wires, and other services can potentially compromise any compartmentation – a key part of any passive fire protection system. To ensure the highest level of protection, all service penetrations must be audited and firestopped where appropriate. There are multiple important factors to consider when firestopping service penetrations. Each potential breach was thoroughly reviewed, with the most intricate of details accounted for. Following this review, the team swiftly rectified all identified service penetrations. Residents and business owners alike can now be assured that this landmark building is 100% compliant with the latest fire safety regulations. As well as this, with The Shard being the height that it is the team had to account for a certain amount of deflection allowance. To mitigate any impact on firestopping, CLM Fireproofing engaged with the building’s design team at the beginning of the project. Similarly, the work that the business undertook at The Madison is worthy of praise. Designed by the award-winning Make Architects, The Madison is a 53-story tower situated in Canary Wharf. This high-rise building features a range of luxurious living spaces, offering residents panoramic views of the River Thames. In November 2019, CLM Fireproofing were commissioned by Balfour Beatty to install fireproofing for all The Madison’s luxury apartments. The goal was to provide fireproofing services both quickly and effectively, in adherence to project timescales and industry best practice. A significant amount of The Madison’s components were modular, and this presented unique challenges that the team were able to successfully navigate. An on-site team of operatives completed the work promptly, whilst remaining 100% compliant with industry health and safety standards. CLM Fireproofing were recognised for the quality of its work by third-party vendors and regulatory bodies. During the project, The Madison was inspected by the National House-Building Council (NHBC). Alongside the Balfour Beatty team, the firm was commended for its top-quality level of workmanship and record production. Furthermore, as the team began working on The Madison the building was visited by FSi, a manufacturer of firestopping and compartmentation systems. FSi regularly works with CLM Fireproofing as technical advisors. Not only did they describe the compound install as ‘the best they’ve ever seen’, but they also took photos to use as examples in their upcoming training presentations! The last few years have inspired many to pay more attention to the value of fire proofing. Indeed, since the Grenfell fire and subsequent Hackitt report, there has been huge scrutiny on the fire safety industry and how fire safety is dealt with by developers, property owners, construction companies and installers. The legislation that governs the fire safety industry is also under scrutiny and something that was once considered a minor package within a construction project, is now a serious life safety issue. It is essential that developers, property owners and construction companies form strategic partnerships who have the experience, technical expertise, pride and commitment to constantly, advise, safeguard and deliver best in class compliant fire protection on all projects. With these challenges in mind, the team have made the decision to continuously develop the services that CLM Fireproofing offers, finding new ways of delivering cost efficiency, sustainability, innovation and technological advancements. The importance of investing in new technologies and adapting in an ever changing digital world cannot be understated, and the team are currently exploring methods to amalgamate Boris (the firm’s proprietary electronic recording, quality control and compliance management system) with Idea Drop – a market leading software that captures, curates and actions the best ideas from across workforces. While technology continues to grow and develop, the future of CLM Fireproofing is its people. The team will strengthen itself with the addition of the highest quality that will provide invaluable new ideas, innovation and solutions for the firm’s future. Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 BUILD 13

BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 14 Aug20613 Leading Specialists in Disaster Restoration Management - Texas ust one year ago, on the 20th of October 2019, the Dallas Cowboys were playing against the New Orleans Saints in a hotly anticipated NFL matchup. Many residents in Dallas, Texas, were keenly watching the game and hoping for a good result. As per usual, the game was peppered with adverts and weather updates, warning North Texas of storms that would be hitting the area, which was not out of the normal for the time of year and the region. However, later on in the game, a chilling new weather update was broadcasted by a local meteorologist who warned of tornado that was on the ground in Dallas. Though the football game was being played in Louisiana, and therefore back on again in mere seconds, residents of Dallas had lost all interest in the game. Suddenly, they were thrust into a dangerous position where their very lives were at risk. At the heart of the area that was at risk was Mr Paul Reyes and his wife. Together, the pair frantically changed the channels to see if any other stations were covering the impending storm. Meteorologists and weathermen of all stations were warning those in the affected areas to take shelter, and wait for the storm to pass. A tornado was ripping through the heart of North Dallas, close to where Mr Reyes and his wife were living at the time. As the family sheltered in place, along with their beloved pets, the blaring of the tornado sirens could be heard above all else. Nestled in the coat closet, the family waited for ten minutes that felt more like an eternity. When at last the sirens silenced, Mr Reyes and the family made their way outside to assess the damage. But for a few tree limbs scattered across the yard, Mr Reyes’ family home was relatively unscathed. Others, however, were not so lucky. Fortunately, no lives were lost during the EF-3 monster tornado that left a trail of destruction on that fateful night in North Dallas. Despite only being on the ground for approximately fifteen minutes, the tornado whipped up winds of more than 140 mph, and it tore a path up to three quarters of a mile wide through one of the wealthiest and most densely populated areas of the city of Dallas. This was the strongest twister to hit the city in more than forty years, and it wrecked countless schools, churches, businesses, and homes. After analysis and surveying the damage done, it would eventually go down in history as one of the costliest tornados in Texas history, with more than two billion dollars’ worth of property damage done. Nature is incredibly powerful and deeply inspiring for some people. However, that power can very quickly turn and become an unmitigated and highly dangerous threat to people’s way of life. With climate change and global warming leading to a vast increase in the number of natural disasters happening all over the world, there is an increasing need for humanity to both solve these issues, but also be prepared for restoration in the aftermath. That is where Standpoint Total Restoration Management comes into the picture. Find out more about the work this Texas-based firm does, and how it rebuilds lives when it can seem that all hope is lost. J Mr Reyes had a sleepless night on October 20th 2019, knowing that many of his friends and neighbours in the area had not escaped the tornado with the same luck that he had. However, he was in a position to be able to help them. As the serving President of a company known as Standpoint Construction, Mr Reyes knew that the next few weeks in the aftermath of the tornado would be around-the-clock work. The morning after the night before, Standpoint’s phones were ringing off the hook with people asking for help with digging out, cutting, and removing downed trees, tarping roofs, boarding up windows, assessing damage, and recommending what the next steps might be. Outside of dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters, Standpoint Construction is a firm that embodies and typifies the ideals of quality, timeliness, and efficiency within the construction and engineering worlds. Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 BUILD 15

BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 16 Standpoint was immediately on the scene, with teams being dispatched to some of the most severely-affected areas in order to bring a wealth of equipment and supplies for those that needed them the most. For almost a month after the tornado hit North Dallas, the outstanding teams at Standpoint worked tirelessly to help dozens of people secure and protect their homes and businesses. Standpoint soon cemented itself as one of the leading specialists in disaster restoration management, but the reality of the work goes far beyond simply economic. Disasters ruin people’s livelihoods, their passions and businesses, their family homes, and so much more. Being prepared for the aftermath of a disaster is just as necessary as being prepared for the impact of the disaster itself. In the aftermath of a massive weather event like the EF-3 monster tornado of October 20th, 2019, the immediate response is absolutely critical. Without effective planning and key leadership during this time, more damage is almost inevitable, as well as the untold levels of anxiety, fear, and worry from the people that have been affected the worst, be they families, businessowners, or key workers. This extra damage can also lead to increased financial and emotional duress on those that are working hard to come up solutions and ways to help solve the ongoing crises that many people are experiences. The work that Standpoint does is crucial in combatting the effects of a disaster event as quickly as possible. The first step that Standpoint takes in its post-disaster service is that of securing the property physically. An absolutely essential first step, this securing process prevents additional damage to a property, and also prevents unexpected guests, either human or animal, from entering the property during a time when it is unstable and unsteady. Insurance carriers require a reasonable effort to be put forth immediately to prevent additional damage. From the moment that the property in question is secured, Standpoint then turns its focus and attention to helping its clients create what is known as a scope of loss. A scope of loss is a detailed list of all damage done to a property, and also includes the quantity and quality of materials damaged or destroyed, the current cost of those materials, and the labor that will be needed to complete a restoration of total rebuild of the property. A scope of loss is just as crucial as any stage of the process, as it can be critical for ensuring that the client gets the maximum insurance pay out possible from their provider. By having a solid scope of loss as soon as it is safely possible to get one, insurance carriers will know the full extent of the damage done to their property, and the cost to repair or replace. It will also, in most instances of disaster aftermath work, reduce the amount of time it will take to get the insurance claim finalized and construction started on the restoration work itself. The sooner a client can get the insurance claim finalized, the better. In the case of the EF-3 monster tornado that swept through North Dallas, the wait was far too long for some individuals. Now eleven months after the devastating event upended and destroyed so many people’s lives, many of them are in temporary housing or even having to sleep under roofs that are held together or completely covered by tarp. Dozens of businesses in the area are yet to reopen, and life is still yet to return to any sense of normality for many people. The claim process can take anywhere from thirty days, to two years, and that is why having a solid scope of loss as soon as possible is so vital to getting the restoration process underway. Standpoint knows this better than most, and works diligently on behalf of its clients to ensure that they can get the process going as quickly as possible. Insurance can be one of the biggest stumbling blocks for many working in the construction industry, especially following a disaster event such as this tornado just last year. Sometimes, the damage is so obvious the insurance carrier can process the claim quickly and easily, and checks for repairs are in the mail with lightning speed. However, the majority of property insurance claims take some investigation by the carrier, in order to ensure that the damage is valid and the claims made are true. For more complicated restoration, such as those involved a tornado, it can take a great many experts to determine and ascertain exactly what it takes to really put the property back together again in a way that is similar to how it was before. The opinions of these experts are not easy to come by, and take the insurance carrier time to sort through. They may not always agree with their final assessments, and that can delay the process even further. However, it remains in the carrier’s best interests to minimize payments, so they will always do whatever they can to ensure that they are not overpaying on claims. As a result, there is a lot of back and forth between those making the claim, and those handling the claim. It is this constant communication that drags out insurance claims for months at a time, even years in some cases. One of the strongest weapons that Standpoint has in its arsenal for defending its clients against this lengthy process is the firm’s strong relationships with legal and engineering experts, public adjusters, meteorologists, electricians, and plumbers. If the firm is ever asked to help with a complex claim, such as the tornado which tore across North Dallas, then Standpoint will always recommend to the client that they bring in the right team of experts to help get the process moving as quickly as possible. Rather than see those who work in the world of insurance as the enemy, or as those who are out to screw their own policy holders, Standpoint works under the belief that if the insurance companies have a strong team of experts behind them, so too should the policy holders themselves.

Within just five milliseconds of flesh being recognised by the sensor, it stops the blade from moving, reducing the risk of serious cutting injuries. This innovative technology helps keeps users’ safe, which is why the introduction of SawStop is so important. “Ultimately, we want our users to be able to rely on Festool tools now and in the future, which is why our engineers are already working on innovative technology for the tools of tomorrow.” Company: Festool Contact: Holly Bonnett Web: www.festool.co.uk

Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 BUILD 19

BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 20 Aug20471 Best Steel Construction Company - Fiji ayals Steels may not have a history quite as long as steel itself, but it is almost certainly as illustrious and the future is as bright as ever. For more than thirteen years, the firm and its steel-producing factory have been tax-free, situated in Yalalevu, in the small town of Ba. Dayals Steels is owned and operated by managing director, Mr Jay Dayal, who has overseen a period of stunning success for the firm. However, the origin story of the firm goes back much further than that. The hot steel rolling mill venture has been a dream project for Mr Jay Dayal and co-managing director Praneesh Dayal, both of whom are sons of Prakash Dayal and Manjula Dayal of the M R Dayal family, a pioneering business family that hail from Ba in Fiji. The Dayal family has a business legacy in Fiji that stretches back more than eighty years, and this latest venture in Dayals Steels has continued that legacy with aplomb. The steel mill and Dayals Steels, which is worth more than $35 million, was co-founded by Prakash Dayal, who is the Chariman of the Dayal family businesses, and Manjula Dayal, who is Fiji’s 2017 Business Woman of the Year. To date, the firm has created more than 130 employment opportunities for the district of Ba, and the wider M R Dayal Group that owns the steel mill boasts employment figures of more than six hundred people, making it the largest employer in Ba. Having invested so much time and money into the industry, Dayals Steels is now in a position where it can deliver more than 100,000 tons of steel in a single year. The venture was initially planned to produce only reinforcement bars for the local market, which drew a $20 million investment. With further due diligence into the overall local and export market steel demand, Dayals Steels was able to increase its product lines by adding roofing iron in pre-painted galvanised roofing sheets, heavy coated steel purlins, welded mesh wire products, and galvanised strapping. Each one of these can be ordered in a multitude of specifications, and Dayals Steels has built a reputation to become a household name for steel products in Fiji. For the team bringing these products to life, the current focus is very much on all the products that they offer, but in an aggressive manner that gives fair competition to those others working in the industry. The industry of steelworks is one that has a long and illustrious history, having been used in some of the most revered structures around the world. Yet, steel is also a material that can be used to uphold communities and give way to buildings and spaces that people can call their own. In the heart of the South Pacific, on the archipelagic island nation of Fiji, is the region’s largest and best family-owned steel rolling mill, Dayals Steels Pte Ltd. To find out more about this reliable and remarkable firm, and its outstanding success, we take a closer look at its story and what it has to offer clients. D Dayals Steels is also a truly unique firm in the industry within the local area of Ba, and Fiji. One of the firm’s major strengths is that every member of the team, from production to sales, are well-versed and educated about the products that are on offer. Those products are also backed by a wealth of accreditation and qualifications, including ISO9001 Quality Management System, ISO14001 Environmental Management System, and ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. The products themselves are also tested by third-party and internationally-accredited laboratories, to ensure that they are as exceptional as they can possibly be, and fulfil the client’s every single need. Armed with these qualifications and accreditations making sure that the products are truly outstanding, Dayals Steels is home to top quality products, timely and exceptional customer service has been pushed to the forefront of what the firm has focused on. As a result, it is this customer service that has become a hallmark of the firm’s success in recent years. Dayals Steels’ market share since 2018 has been continuously growing, and is on track to be the dominant player in the Fijian steel industry by the end of 2021. With competition now also extending to retailers that are entering the manufacturing world, Dayals Steels understands the need to open retail outlets of its own all over Viti Levu to counter that move. Trained technical staff who have a grup on the product quality standards and customer service expectations will man the retail stores, and deliver resounding success here too. Manufacturing is an industry that has long been in an unwelcome spotlight when it comes to the world of environmentally-friendly processes and procedures. At Dayals Steels, the environmentally-friendly operation takes away the burden from businesses that find it difficult to dispose wastage fuel and oil. The high temperature furnace burns the waste oil at such high temperatures that most volatile and harmful substances are broken into almost harmless gas. Also, the hot rolling process is internationally accepted as a norm for the industry, and is considered to be environmentally safe, hence the firm achieving its ISO14001 Environmental Management System accreditation.
