About SS Explorer Preservation Society
Historic Vessel Restoration Project of the Year 2020
Since 1995, The SS Explorer Preservation Society has been caring for the S.S. Explorer, Scotland’s first purpose built fishery research vessel. The vessel is located in the Port of Leith and volunteers are keeping her wind and watertight. Our vision is for the Explorer to become part of a visitor attraction celebrating Scotland’s and Leith’s engineering and fishing heritage. This ambition will require a seven figure sum. Over the last two years we obtained five figure donations from Heritage Lottery Fund and from a generous private individual. We are building our organisation to make it fit for this purpose. www.ssexplorer.org
