BUILD Q3 2019

BUILD Q3 2019 16 Jun19381 t would perhaps be an understatement to say that an appetite is growing for custom residential builds, with clients all over the UK eager to capitalise on a new wave of design firms that have become defined – primarily – by innovation. These new studios are decidedly client-centric, seeing success through an ability to transform the simplest of briefs into something interesting, bold, creative. This sense of creativity has defined Orange and allowed them to harness a reputation around ‘being different’ – a refreshing originality that has helped to distinguish them in an industry which has swiftly become crowded and competitive. As Jake explains, this was the studio’s mission from the outset. “We have built a commercial reputation amongst many professionals in the construction industry for delivering technically challeng- ing projects, in some cases making the impossible, possible. One example of this is the development of a new-build home adjacent to a Grade II listed 1330 build home. Another is the development of three homes on a constrained site that was overlooked on three boundaries with topographic constraints.” “From our creative design studio, Orange has full capabilities for handling projects of different sizes, ranging from bespoke home extensions, residential commission, housing develop- ments and creative commercial projects. The studio environ- ment has an open company culture with a focus on approacha- ble client service and teamwork.” “ Focussed. Friendly. Approachable. ” This openness extends beyond the walls of the company itself. After all, the design industry isn’t exactly the most approachable on the greater business landscape, as Jake takes a moment to discuss. “Our studio ethos is to be as approachable as possible. We understand that meeting and instructing designers – as well as other professionals – can be daunting. Orange aim to make the entire process as stress-free and easy as possible. Orange Design Studio’s approachable, transparent way of working runs deep into our company’s core which transpires in our studio culture. “The benefit of a high-street based practice means we are able to eliminate the potentially intimidating process of designing and Inspiring Spaces Through Innovative Design Established in 2012, Orange is a visionary design studio that is based in Mirfield, Yorkshire. Working primarily in the residential environment, the studio has forged an impressive reputation for their creativity, innovation and client-centricity. As a result, they were recognised with the award for ‘Excellence in Residential Architecture & Renovation’ in the 2019 Design and Build Awards. Following this success, we spoke with Designer and Director, Jake Hinchliffe to find out more. I constructing buildings. Our studio is an open and approachable place for our clients to visit any time. Our approach allows our clients to not only think ‘’I would love a home like that’’ but to ac- tually be able to work with us and create it”, Jake emphasises. This approachability has helped outline the ethos of the compa- ny, as they look to go above and beyond expectations to secure long-lasting client relationships. “Our approach to working with our clients is what sets us apart from other practices: we go the extra mile to deliver without compromise on the design. We have also invested greatly in new technology allowing each of our clients to have their own project portal where they can live chat to the whole design and construction team, as well as access all their documents and project files.” With all of this in mind, it would perhaps be no surprise that most of Orange’s work comes from word of mouth and referrals – no small achievement, even for a firm as forward-thinking as Orange undoubtedly is. As we come to the end of the interview, Jakes moves on to discuss the role of his team in securing Orange’s enviable rep- utation. “Our team is a fundamental part of what we do: there is nobody that plays a more or less important role. We all play a part in keeping ‘the engine running’ that enables us to deliver exceptional results for our clients.” Finally, Jake discusses Orange’s future as they settle into their new design studio. “After creating our very own purpose-built design studio in 2018 – which we moved into early 2019 – we are hoping to re-focus on growing the business. Building our premises was a challenging phase to get through, so it’ll be nice to focus on a more long-term objective.” Company: Orange Design Studio LTD Name: Jake Hinchliffe Address: 59A Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, WF14 8AA, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom Website: www.orangedesignstudio.co.uk Telephone: +44 (0)19246 50930
