BUILD Q1 2019

29 Q1 2019 Build modern style has come to be defined as clean, sophisticated and purposeful. Sometimes it can be monochromatic, relishing in an elegance found in spartan surroundings. It’s form and function held in equilibrium, with every object contributing to a greater whole. Today’s modern designers have thrived through their ability to make space different and interesting, not avoiding challenges but diving deep, discovering that truly great design often emerges from daring choices. Some designers make this difficult task look easy, utilising years of hard earned talent and experience to revitalise worn rooms into something extraordinary and full of life. By all regards, Fleur Ward is one of those designers. A glimpse at her portfolio reveals a skill for creating spaces that are modern with hints of other eras and styles. One project feels decidedly retro, another seems abstract, the last utterly contemporary. Fleur is a designer with many talents, and a chameleonic ability to match her style to the client’s vision. According to Fleur, this apparently seamless sense of collaboration comes from a personal approach. “I work personally with the client providing an interior design service which ultimately reflects their personality and lifestyle. Taking prize possessions and budget into consideration, I involve the client to create a space that feels like their home - not a show house.” “I’m told I put people at ease so ensuring the client is comfortable is a priority. A personality fit is key, and I can either involve the client with every decision or work remotely. With 25 years in the industry I have a long list of suppliers, so sourcing is a particular specialty. Finding items that elevate a room to create an overall look is something I enjoy. I’ve always had a passion for colour, fabrics and wallpaper so feel particularly skilled at combining the three.” This client relationship is utterly key to Fleur’s success, creating a robust foundation on which to build her firm. “My relationships with my clients have ensured longevity and great testimonials. The common thread amongst them all is how relaxed and fun the process was. My clients are predominantly West London with families, either wanting the entire home refurbished or one room. Ultimately, I think some clients are nervous about hiring an interior designer believing they will be told to Thriving Through Excellence in Modern Design Fleur Ward is an accomplished interior designer who has flourished through her talent for creating bold, bombastic spaces, bursting with colour and character. Through her firm, Fleur Ward Interior Design, Fleur has forged a unique style that continues to exceed even the most discerning of expectations. Naturally, here at BUILD Magazine, we were eager to find out more about Fleur’s inspirations and innovative approach to design following the 2019 Architecture Awards. A skip everything and start again! I prefer to listen, edit and go from there. When the single room goes well, we tend to then move around the house. I understand they’re wanting to dip a toe in and get a taste for the finished project. These projects can be done in stages to ensure the overall result is achieved.” In her closing comments, Fleur discusses the future of her design firm as she looks ahead to a year of expansion and challenges. “I have a house in Wimbledon starting next month which I’m very excited about. it will be a year-long build and my client loves colour! I’ve just launched my own brand of wallpapers www.Ohhfleur.com and showing them at Top Drawer Kensington Olympia January 13-15th. They are bold and bright, with a theme and sense of humour. A few 80’s references and a cheeky modern toile. They are designed for homes and hotels. My inspiration came from struggling to find something like these for clients and being disappointed with many a commercial loo!” Address: London, W3 6HN, United Kingdom Telephone: 07990517446 Website: www.fleurwardinteriordesign.com Jan19025
