Architecture Awards 2023 BUILD 103 Apr23055 eveko Markings Group develops, manufactures, and distributes horizontal markings in any size, material, colour, or form to meet the requirements of its customers, surface owners, and end-users in the segments it serves. Since the company was founded almost a century ago, it has taken part in forming and developing the mobility infrastructure. First in Scandinavia, then on a European level, and in more recent decades, increasingly on a global scale. Geveko Markings mainly focuses on areas of application where its products must perform to strict standards and under demanding circumstances, such as high traffic, volumes, and different weather and climate conditions. The markings enable safe, sustainable, and efficient mobility in more than 80 countries around the world. They safeguard communities and guide people to their destinations, whilst they also transform surfaces into decorative, colourful, and playful environments. “Building on our experience and deep knowledge of the road markings industry, it is our continued mission to make highquality materials that guide, inspire, and protect people all over the world,” explains David Bryant, the firm’s Director and Country Manager for the UK. “When it comes to raising performance standards that improve traffic safety and consequently save lives, we are among the leaders within our industry.” With almost 100 years of experience in the industry, Geveko Markings has a firm set of core values that help set the company apart. These include a local presence, a global supply chain and a strong portfolio of high-quality products. When it comes to ensuring the safety of pedestrians and visually impaired individuals, there are special considerations to be made. It is not easy for all to move around safely in busy environments, and Geveko Markings has a wide range of accessibility products, which guide us safely and thereby improve our quality of life. The domed TacPad™ is for creating attention or warning about a hazardous area. This could be that you are on a flight of stairs or close to railway tracks and therefore should proceed with caution. By using TacPad tiles it makes it possible to alert visually impaired pedestrians to a hazard and direct them to a safer route, by creating a texture contrast to the surface of the pavement. Another recent endeavour that Geveko Markings supported was a community project in Aberdeen to help transform a busy footbridge in Kittybrewster into an art installation using its PlastiRoute™ and DecoMark™ materials. “The purpose of this project was to bring confidence and create a better sense of identity and wellbeing to residents and visitors to the area,” David elaborates. “The completed installation is entitled ‘Lots of Different Fish Swim Here’ and visitors will see why.” The project, spearheaded by the Community Council, was supported by the Aberdeen City Council and the Fairer Aberdeen Support Fund. Final year students at the local Gray’s School of Art were given the task of developing artistic improvement using suggested ideas from the local community. Recently, for these two incredibly innovative projects, Geveko Markings was recognised in the BUILD Architecture Awards and bestowed with not one, but two prestigious accolades, these being Most Innovative Pedestrian Safety Product - TacPad™ and Most Vibrant Community Project 2023 (Scotland): Lots of Different Fish Swim Here. “We believe that the success of our company has come from a passion for what we do,” enthuses David. “Every one of our markings is the result of the impressive skill of our employees. No matter where in the world, the local attitude of Geveko Markings ensures that we have close, long-term relationships with our customers and local stakeholders.” Contact: Andy Price Company: Geveko Markings Web Address: www.geveko-markings.co.uk G Geveko Markings Group (Geveko) provides high-quality marking materials that guide, inspire, and protect people all over the world.
