We spoke to Marchiorato to find out more about him and his unique oeuvre. pecialising in architecture and interior design, Giuliano Marchiorato Arquitetos is an architecture firm based in Curitiba, Brazil, that has established itself as a master of minimalism and creative boldness. Creating designs that are built around intelligent solutions, Marchiorato has made a name for himself and his ability to manifest ideas of the future in present-day projects. This means utilising sustainable and responsible materials and imbuing designs with functionality, all whilst creating aesthetically pleasing architectural feats and remarkable interiors. Marchiorato takes pride in his ability to set trends, rather than follow them. Each of his project narratives demonstrate his intuitive touch, particularly in his use of lighting to transform a space. For Marchiorato, a truly successful design is one that pushes the boundaries of architecture and design, displaying innovation rather than copying the trends and architects that have come before him. With conscientious use of lighting and influences from fellow Curitiba-based studios, Marchiorato is able to truly capture the essence of contemporary living in Brazil. He recently employed his expertise in the award-winning Apartamento Parque, an apartment designed for a young newlywed S couple who shared a passion for art and design. She, a leather parts designer who owns one of the largest tanneries in Brazil, he, an entrepreneur engaging in innovative projects for the city, the pair were seeking a home that matched their cosmopolitan lifestyle. The apartment was a gift in itself, located in wooded surroundings with plenty of sunshine next to the city’s most famous park, the Barigui, and with fantastic views of the city. The recently opened duplex residential apartment on the 24th floor faces north-east and was a spectacular blank canvas for Marchiorato to work with. The process began with the selection of three central elements that encapsulated the apartment and the owners; Freijó wood, ashy tones and leather hides. Using this as their foundation, the architect considered applied finishes and secondary elements that contributed to the overall composition and conceptualisation of the space. The result was Marchiorato’s signature minimalism with creative flair. As Marchiorato continues to pursue similarly exciting projects, there is little doubt that he has truly established himself as a major player within the Brazilian architecture and interior design game.
