BUILD Q2 2026 Band of Builders (BoB) was established as a movement which has positively impacted numerous construction workers’ lives nationwide. This charity continues to be a proud support network for people who are part of an integral industry: construction. Here we learn more as BoB is named Construction Worker Support Charity of the Year 2026 in this year’s Design & Build Awards. “Our mission is simple, to stand shoulder to shoulder with construction workers and their families when life takes an unexpected turn. Whether that is through life-changing practical projects, immediate financial support or the wellbeing services we provide, everything we do is about making sure no one in our industry feels left behind.” BoB began from one construction worker’s kind actions, and has since flourished for the tens of thousands of people affected by cancer. When Founder Addam Smith learned that one of his close friends and fellow construction workers, Keith Ellick, has been diagnosed with cancer, he decided to do what he could to help. As Keith faced the most difficult news, Addam was there every step of the way. He decided to raise money via social media and ensured plumbers, builders, gardeners, tilers, plasterers, and landscapers could totally transform Keith’s two-bedroom home into the space of his dreams. This was a plight to make Keith’s life so much easier in his tough time, and every construction worker part of the project (50 in total) helped to create the home Keith truly deserved. This sparked a movement across the nation, where individuals can receive or offer support to those who need it most, and here at BUILD we’re so proud to name BoB our Construction Worker Support Charity of the Year 2026. Providing practical, financial, and wellbeing support for construction workers, and their loved ones, all around the UK, BoB stands out as a more than a helping hand, it is a lifeline. In a previous interview, CEO Gavin Crane told us: “What sets us apart is the way we bring the industry together. We are the national construction charity that unites volunteers, businesses and supporters from every corner of the UK, creating a movement that is bigger than any single project. Our blend of practical hands-on support, mental health services and financial aid is unique, giving us the ability to respond quickly and effectively to the challenges construction workers face.” “When life changes, we help construction workers rebuild.” Our parent company has recognised the charity’s work since 2023, where BoB was awarded in the Non-Profit Awards in 2023, 2024, and 2025. It has also been recognised in the Design & Build Awards for two consecutive years, in addition to Gavin’s success across the Global CEO Excellence Awards and CEO of the Year Awards across three consecutive years. Continuing its mission of helping people everywhere, BoB is set for a bright future ahead. More and more people are joining the charity to help a plethora of construction workers and their families, and BoB shows absolutely no sign of slowing down as it stays true to its core values of integrity in every action, compassion for those it supports, and the grit to keep going no matter what kind of challenge comes its way.
