Below, we catch up with second-generation manager, Howard ‘Chip’ Hall, who tells us more about this multi-awardwinning homebuilder. The year is 2005, and Howard John Hall, a renowned Massachusetts real estate mogul, land use attorney, and developer, has identified a significant shift in the property market. More and more people are in search of a home that is manageable and reasonably sized, one boasting an efficient design and an awareness of the environment, and, most importantly, which represents a sense of community that has long since been missing. Two decades later, as we now know, the trends Howard identified have become more prominent than ever. In 2025, these shifts have culminated in a series of property megatrends – with these spanning everything from a greater emphasis on outdoor living to the seamless integration of natural features, pedestrian-friendly designs, and the development of high density or cluster houses in communities. A few years before he officially developed Cottage Advisors, this esteemed attorney had even partnered with another builder in his hometown of Westford, MA. This partnership led to The Village at Stone Ridge, an age-restricted condo development comprising 110 separate units. Standing as a beacon for open space preservation and thoughtful design and construction practices, this development reflected Howard’s commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the sites he worked on.
