2019 Homebuilder Awards

2019 Homebuilder Awards Build 33 Project Etopia: Alex, son of Project Etopia’s major investor Lord Stanley Fink, will be a board adviser. lex Fink has been appointed to the board of modular smart homes provider Project Etopia. Alex will be a board adviser to CEO Joseph Daniels who founded the company to tackle the housing crisis and provide young people with more affordable, desirable homes. He will be involved in developing Project Etopia’s global strategy. Alex began his career at Lehman Brothers in 2008 and retains a role as Head of Investor Relations at property investment platform British Pearl. Both British Pearl and Project Etopia have received substantial investment from Alex’s father, the former Conservative Party Treasurer Lord Stanley Fink, who is a serial investor and philanthropist. After Lehman, Alex oversaw Fixed Income Operations at MF Global, an arm of Man Group where Lord Fink was CEO until 2007. Alex then moved to commodity broker Marex Spectron, where his father is a non-executive director, in 2010, spending seven years managing the sales of fixed income futures and options. Project Etopia is expanding rapidly and began development of 47 modular homes in Corby, Northamptonshire, in December. The first four houses are almost complete, and will be joined by a further 27 houses and 16 apart- ments. It is Project Etopia’s first major development and will be an attractive alternative to bricks and mortar homes among Corby’s growing population of young commuters who take advantage of the town’s hour and ten minute journey time to London. The company also entered the self-build market this month (Feb), launch- ing E-Tribus, which is a partnership between Project Etopia and self-build specialist Tribus Homes. Alex Fink, Director of Project Etopia, commented on the appointment. “Project Etopia is rapidly sending modular house building mainstream. It’s an incredibly exciting time for a young company to be in this sector and Joseph has done a tremendous job surrounding himself with people who will deliver his vision.” Joseph Daniels, CEO of Project Etopia, also discussed how this change will help the project. “It’s great to have Alex on board. We’ve had tremendous support from the Fink family and Alex’s experience of developing businesses means he has the insights to help us drive the Etopia proposition forward.” A “Today’s survey is encouraging in that housebuilders are increasing the rate at which they are building homes. “However, issues such as a lack of appropriate land, slow planning per- mission and skills shortages remain significant factors holding back con- struction, which is why the majority of respondents are sceptical that the government’s housing targets will be met. “In particular, the construction industry relies on thousands of skilled EU workers because of skills shortages in the domestic workforce, and with these workers potentially prevented from working in the UK after the Brexit transition period ends in 2021, many housebuilders will be struggling to find the workforce needed to build the new homes that are urgently needed. “And for those people struggling to get a foot on the property ladder, the finding that only around one in five of new homes to be built over the next year will fall into the affordable category will be disappointing.” Alex Fink Appointed To Board Of Modular Developer Project Etopia “The construction industry relies on thousands of skilled EU workers because of the skills shortages within the domestic workforce.”
