BUILD Construction & Engineering Awards 2020 24 Sep20006 Best Commercial Humidification Solutions Provider 2020 & Most Cost-Efficient Humidifier Product 2020: GTS® LX Series Humidifier riSteem offers humidification systems for critical indoor environments to protect against fluctuating and low relative humidity levels that contribute to various problems in healthcare, data centres, laboratories, manufacturers, and other facilities. As a top quality provider of humidification, evaporative cooling, and water treatment solutions for commercial and industrial applications, DriSteem ensures that all of its products meet stringent quality requirements, and delivers the best solutions for their customers. Many facilities require precise control of moisture and cooling in the air for consistent environmental conditions, reduced waste, reduced production line disruptions or failures, and protection against the loss or degradation of sensitive materials. However, the benefits of healthy levels of humidification extend to every indoor environment, including schools, clinics, senior living communities, correctional facilities, and many others. Maintaining relative humidity between 40 and 60% RH is also a critical part of protecting the building’s occupants against the spread of viruses, such as the highly contagious and prevalent COVID-19, as well as the seasonal flu. A key study done in 1985 showed that the optimal conditions to minimize risks to human health occur between 40-60% relative humidity, or RH, at normal room temperatures. This study is still referenced by HVAC professionals today and forms the basis of standards for healthy built environments set by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Maintaining RH within this 40-60% range decreases the number of viruses, bacteria, and allergens found in the environment while also preventing skin dryness and eye irritation. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, tested this concept in a preschool classroom. Researchers wanted to determine whether increasing the relative humidity of classrooms to 40-60% would reduce the capacity of influenza to survive on classroom surfaces or in the air as aerosols. Commercialsized humidifiers were installed in two classrooms, to compare against two control rooms that had no humidification. This study showed that the humidified rooms had a significant decrease in % total air samples containing influenza A, a trend toward decreased % of surface samples containing influenza A, a significant reduction in influenza A presence for total air and surface samples, fewer infectious samples, and fewer flu-like illnesses reported. DriSteem is a premier manufacturer of commercial humidification, evaporative cooling, and water treatment systems that protect against the significant issues that dry air can cause. There are many applications where humidification is needed, and that is where DriSteem truly excels. Discover why the level of relative humidity is so important for health and wellness in all of our buildings. O DriSteem’s American production facility is ISO 9001-2015 certified. Its operational processes are reviewed annually by an outside agency to guarantee accuracy and efficiency. The firm has more than half a century of experience in the development and innovation of humidification systems; experience which has resulted in multiple patented designs that not only meet the customers’ unique needs, but exceed them. Each humidifier is started up and put through rigorous testing at the DriSteem factory prior to being shipped out to the customer, wherever they may be. In the HVAC industry, reliability is critical. DriSteem’s number one priority is quality, and this is an integral part of its culture as it continually improves its products and processes. Being committed to meeting and exceeding the needs of the customers is what drives product development at DriSteem in such a way that it is able to provide just the right solution for any application. Sizing equipment to exactly the size needed means less waste and better performance for customers, and that is what it is all about at the end of the day. That confidence is important to everyone involved in the design, installation, and operation of humidification into buildings. There is also great excitement around the second award win that DriSteem has achieved in this years’ Construction and Engineering Awards from BUILD Magazine: Most CostEfficient Humidifier Product 2020: GTS® LX series humidifier. DriSteem’s new GTS LX series condensing gas-fired humidifier is the only gas-fired humidifier on the market that combines high efficiency and ultra-low nitrogen oxide emissions in a single unit. This allows the GTS LX series humidifier to offer customers a next generation technological breakthrough in energy savings, installation flexibility, and environmental protection. The GTS LX series humidifier operates at efficiencies as high as 106% of the Lower Heating Value (LHV) of natural gas, meaning it uses nearly every joule of energy available in the gas. For comparison, an adiabatic humidifier will draw energy from the air, which is often heated by a natural gas boiler with system efficiencies between 70% and 105%. The GTS LX series humidifier humidifies the air in a high percentage outdoor air system using less natural gas than the pre-heating source needed for an adiabatic system. Additionally, the building’s existing heating system would not need to be upgraded to meet the increased pre-heat demands of an adiabatic
