Construction and Engineering Awards 2025

21 a substantial range of large schools and colleges. The schools and educational facilities are directly responsible for complying with site safety and building regulations, which is precisely where Evolution steps in: providing services to keep schools compliant in all areas of fire safety, as well as maintenance provisions to ensure that their fire doors obtain and maintain their effective fire resisting capabilities. “Evolution is very bespoke in our offering,” Jonathan told us. “We are fortunate enough to have both expertise and partnerships in a multitude of areas when it comes to fire safety. Evolution has worked towards becoming a very well-rounded fire safety specialist contractor and it is the composition of these vital fire safety system components that makes us a strong competitor in the industry, whilst our history of development and innovation gives proof of our passion.” The company approaches each new project with an unfaltering focus on clear communication and total transparency. With extensive industry experience, Evolution often observes specification changes throughout project progression and finds it essential to consistently communicate with each client to ensure that they are happy and that the team is meeting their expectation. This approach, valuing integrity and reliability above all else, has historically helped Evolution to establish stronger working relationships and achieve positive outcomes. Despite this streamlined approach, however, undertaking projects with new clients always poses challenges, particularly in aligning expectations around fire door specifications. “One of our new local housing associations has brought just that,” said Jonathan. “High traffic and damage prone areas have given us an opportunity to provide brand-new door sets to various residential properties in our area. This has involved close collaboration with their technical team to understand their criteria, re-sourcing new materials and adjusting timelines to accommodate the changes. Working with a great number of projects, we truly have got things moving for the client and ensured a solid final solution that meets both safety regulations and client expectations. We are incredibly proud of how far it has come and what is still yet to come!” The fire safety sector is a landscape that is continually evolving, with frequent shifts stemming from ongoing changes to compliance and regulation. As a result, Evolution is constantly on its toes, prepared to adapt and advance its services in alignment with the sector’s changing needs. Most recently, regulations have altered to require a fire door maintenance service to be provided by the manufacturer, a significant change that has driven innovation and adaption across Evolution. To respond to this shifting demand, Evolution now offers maintenance provisions to housing associations and property management companies. Fire doors are manufactured and fitted with a 30-60 minute fire rating but run the risk of being compromised by wear and tear, especially when used in high traffic residential buildings. Under the Regulatory Reform Order 2005 and Regulation 10, regular checks and remedials are a legal requirement – glazing, door closers, working performance, and more – as faults may compromise the door’s fire resisting capabilities. Now, Evolution provides quotations for both surveys and proposed remedials. Looking ahead, Evolution has a positive outlook for the remainder of 2025. For the rest of the year, the company’s focus will be on completing all projects before the year’s end and maintaining its clients’ safety and satisfaction simultaneously. The company embarked on a new adventure within the educational sector this year, with the announcement of its new book: The Adventures of the Brave Fire Door. “As most of you know, we manufacture fire doors and install them within educational facilities,” Jonathan told us. “Each year brings new challenges, goals, and ideas, however the team – onsite and at our HQ – bring their best standards of working to push the company forward. This year, we have entered a completely different and surprising chapter.” Jamie McKerrow Maxwell, a good friend and colleague of the business, created a new mascot to add to the team. The new addition set the creative cogs moving within the team, resulting in the design, illustration, and decision to publish Evolution’s own children’s book. The book’s subject matter is close to Evolution’s heart, highlighting the importance of fire safety and fire doors within schools – with Evolution’s newest little team member leading the way throughout the story. Evolution’s first step in releasing the book began at the Schools and Academies Show at the Excel Exhibition Centre on London on the 15th of May. This event highlighted significant interest in the book, from those within the education sector and authors alike. To accompany the book’s release, Evolution has also launched a special competition for schools wishing to be a part of the book. At present, the mascot doesn’t have a name, and Evolution would like schools and organisations in education to help it find the best name for him. The chosen winner will receive 100 personalised copies of The Adventures of the Brave Fire Door for their school of choice. Competition entries can be made on Evolution’s website, with all details and T&Cs included in the submission form.
