2018 Architecture Awards

Build 2018 Architecture Awards 112 Rex Hawkesworth “It is remarkable that a house constructed 600 years ago can have some basic similarities with one built now. The Grevel House, is based in Chipping Campden and is late 14th century building, and the 21st century house is found in Havant, Hampshire. Of course what goes on behind the front elevation would be entirely different then and now and also the use then would be more for business which allowed the house to survive in its original form no doubt as well as its materials. There was no intention to repeat the front elevation which was coincidental, however what connects the two dwellings is the domestic scale of then and now and the blending together of the four elements in the elevations. This can only be done in a large house which shows that domesticity has not necessarily changed its visual fad over time.” AR180011 HAVANT 1 HAVANT 2 BUILD 2018 Architectural Awards Contact: Rex Hawkeworth RIBA Address: 4 Rampart Gardens, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO3 5LR Phone: 023392 662330 Email: [email protected]
